Sleep apnea

Sleep apnea is obstruction of the airway by some moments during the night, by approximating the tissues of the throat, closing the passage of air and preventing the breath for a few seconds, several times per night.

Severe illness, when higher levels, interferes significantly so aggravating diseases which may cause death of the patient, such as hypertension, myocardial infarction and stroke (stroke).

Oral appliances

Sleep apnea is a condition that can cause the patient to have serious heart problems and snoring, which is one of the signs of apnea can be treated with oral appliances. With excellent results in the treatment of snoring and mild to moderate apnea, more comfortable than other treatments and with relatively low cost, oral appliances are one of the best treatment options.

The indication of the use of the devices is multidisciplinary, requiring the evaluation of dental and medical specialist in otorhinolaryngology or sleep and own tests to determine the severity of apnea (polysomnography).

It is caused by the vibration of the tissues of the throat (posterior pharyngeal wall, the tongue dorsum, soft palate and uvula, due to air turbulence as the airways are narrowed).

Obesity, mouth breathing and the use of cigarettes and alcohol significantly exacerbate snoring.
